“I have enjoyed coming back once a week since Amardeep staff have come back to the centre. I feel less depressed
and enjoying the once a week. I do live on my own. I need to talk to someone face to face. When I have a chance to see Amardeep
staff, I can talk to Anita, Raj, Pragnesh or Jay in my own language..”
"We used to have a lot of fun and
activities with our own staff, who consisted of Anita, Raj, Pugnaish and Jay – they thoroughly understood us. Thus without
any hesitation South Asian people, especially the ladies who couldn’t speak a word of English, had great assistance
to speak in their own language to explain what is happening to them, regarding mental health…
… There was no proper food
like what we were used to. We were not sure about the meat being Halal and I personally stopped eating meat. But the last
straw was that we have been offered moldy bread. When I complained about this, the answer was that it was not their job to
do the shopping for us. It was quite a flippant remark and I was really very angry and after some time they apologized, but
the harm was already done. It showed that they were not happy to take a lot of the responsibilities for South Asian people."
